The old sign on the cottage garden wall says Brainedin. Our new signs and our website say Braenedin and looking back through the archives and old maps we found the group of cottages which used to be at the site called Braenudin.
Andrew's parents had found a map from 1812 which named the cottage as Braenudin. We were more keen on the Brae than the Brain and the edin than the udin but we couldn't bring ourselves to take down the old wooden sign. Not the most scientific but that's how we landed on Braenedin ... and two different spellings. Check out the old map!
